22. a. If food is not given, then there will be no glucose availableIe to perform cellular respiration. If there is no cellular respiration (glycolysis and TCA cycle) then, there will be no reducing equivalents (NADH2 and FADH2) produced. Electron transport system needs these reducing equivalents to harvest electron from them to perform their electron transportation across the system. So, if there is no food given, it affects the ETC directly.

22.b. Oxygen is the final electron acceptor of the ETC. The electrons that are transported across the system has to be accepted by some electron acceptor. In aerobic respiration it is oxygen. Therefore, if oxygen is not available for the ETC to accept the electorn then, the function of ETC will be arrested. Reduction of oxygen is taking place at the IV complex of ETC. This complex will be affected by cyanide or carbon monoxide poisoning.
