Suppose your company has leased one class C license 120.10.10.10.0. and wants to sublease the first half of these IP addresses to another company. What is the CIDR notation for the subnet to be subleased? What is the subnet mask for this network?

Answer #1

120.10.10.10 is a Class C license that mean first 24 bits are network ID and next 8 bits are host IDs. This means the network can have 2^8 hosts.

My company is subleasing the first half IP addresses that mean 2^7 hosts are being subleased. This can be done if first 25 bits be the network ID and next 7 bits be the host IDs .

The 4th Octet is 10 .

10 in binary is 0000 1010

In the question there is another '0'. So Ill solve assuming it can be 100 too.

100 in binary is 0110 0100

CIDR for the network to be subleased is 120.10.10.0/25

Subnet Mask is the Address that when logical AND with any IP Address in the subnet gives the network ID

Subnet Mask is 255.255.255.127

You can check this by AND ing 120.10.10.1 and 255.255.255.127
