15. Shin splint can occur in two regions, anterior shin splints or posterior shin splints, in case of anterior shin splint, muscle involved is, the tibialis anterior muscle and in case of posterior shin splint, the muscle which could be injured is, the tibialis posterior.

16. Calf injuries are most often caused by overstretching or putting extra force through the calf muscles at the back of your leg. The calf muscles consists of three muscles, gastrocnemuis, soleus and plantaris. Gastrocnemius and soleus muscles helps in plantar flexion of the ankle joint and flexion at knee joint, they provide the propelling force for the movement. plantaris muscle helps in plantar flexion of ankle.

Muscle strain usually occurs in the medial head of gastrocnemius or close to the musculotendinous joints.
