Daily water balance is done for a lake (300 acres of surface area) that is used as water supply resource for a community. During the previous 24-hr period the average inflow was 200 cfs, the average outflow (including water extracted for public supply) was 80 cfs, total precipitation was 2 in. and the pan evaporation near the lake indicated a net reduction of 0.3 in. Infiltration losses of the soil and bottom of the lake have a constant infiltration rate of 0.2 in/hr. Assume that the pan constant of evaporation is 0.70.
Determine (showing all computations):
a) Daily evaporation of the lake (in.).
b) Daily infiltration of the lake (in.).
c) Net daily change of lake's surface elevation (in.). d) Net daily change of storage volume (acre-ft).

You are performing a study of evaporation from Lake Patagonia in southern Arizona. The inflow of water is measured at a nearby USGS gauging station immediately upgrading of the lake and averages about 15.8 cubic feet per second (cfs) for a 30-day period. precipitation in the area totaled 4.5 inches during the same period. The lake has a surface area of 265 acres and you can assume the sides of the lake are vertical. At the beginning of the study...
