Sexual abuse has a direct and long-lasting effects that could be disturbing for the emotional and physical health of the victim. Most of the victims grieve from some kind of devastating mental and emotional reverberations. These effects of sexual abuse then begin to become evident until and unless the victims seeks out assistance from counselling groups for sexual assault and mental health professionals who specialize in serving victims to tame any possible effect of sexual assault that can last long.

Common mental effects: -

• It includes recurrences, visions, acute nervousness, and overpowering thoughts.
• Depression which includes sadness, notion of hopelessness, crying, loss or gain in weight, lack of spirit.
• Suicidal feelings or attempts
• Dissociation which includes lack of focus on work.

Common emotional effects: -

• Lack of trust
• Irritation
• Tremor
• Detachment
• Loss of control
• Confusion
• Weakness
• Sense of vulnerability
• Anxiety
• Self-blame/guilt for “allowing” the crime to happen.
