Answer #1

Answer :

21p41.2 describes the cytogenetic location of the given gene.

Here 21 represents the chromosome on which this gene is found. There are 22 autosomal chromosomes and 2 sex chromosomes which are represented by X or Y .

p is the arm of the chromosome. Each chromosome has 2 arms, p and q arm. p is the shorter arm and q is the longer arm.

The number 41 after the letter p indicates the position of the gene on the p arm. The two digits  represents a region and a band.

The number after the point is sometimes present to indicate the sub-bands within the light or dark areas.

21p41.2 is closer to the centromere of the chromosome as compared to 21p41.3 . The larger the number after the letters p or q , the farther it is from the centromere.
