How do you determine the # hosts / network. as stated in the last column to the far right of the pick?
Subnet Mask : 11111111.11111111.11111111.11111100
Equivalent Decimal Subnet Mask: 255.255.255.252
To find Network Address, We do logical and of Subnet Mask and IP address.
In the 32 bit subnet mask, first 30 bits are 1's . This means first 30 bits are reserved for network address and last two bits are for host address. Using 2 bits, we can accommodate 4 hosts(2^2). But in every network first address and last address are reserved for network identification and broadcast. So we cant use those two addresses for hosts. So from 4 hosts, we substract 2 . So we are remained with only 2 hosts.
