Kodak was one of the evolvers of the digital revolution but was unable to keep pace with the fast-changing customer's needs and desires. The culture of Kodak began at the starting of the 20th century with the creation of its principal photography business by George Eastman. At that time in American business, it was customary for entrepreneurs to treat their organizations as family. The CEO makes sure that the company takes care of its employees and their family throughout their lives. The sense of family is a founding creator of fallacy and underlies the cultural structure of the organization.

Promotions for key positions almost exclusively came from within the company. The commercial success of the company created a mindset that it could do no wrong and the future of the company would be the same as its past.

To be successful in the digital world required a culture that was completely distinct from Kodak. The paternalistic myths are not part of any successful digital organization. Ignoring the modification of the culture of Kodak ruins any possibility of future success Kodak has. It can be argued that Kodak's organizational culture that demonstrated the company's evident complacency proved to be the main reason as to why the company failed. The system and structure of strategic decision making amongst employees meant that the company was too slow to adapt to the rapidly changing external environment.

Sometimes it can be difficult to manipulate the external market but it is certainly possible to create an organizational culture structure that maximizes the possibility of overcoming threats of failure. This involves encouraging and rewarding innovation, higher productivity and competitive customer service. In the case of Kodak, their fixed model tumbled with their competitors' release of a new range of digital cameras led to their inescapable demise.
