What is Beer Game ?
It is management game simulates a 4 stage supply chain ( retailer, wholesaler, distributer and factory). In each stage is played by one or two or three platers.
The main task is to produce and deliver units of beer i.e. factory produces and other 3 stages deliver the beer units until reaches the customer at the end side of supply chain.
In my experience, It was one of best learning and meaningful game ever played. During the game, I created a lot of confusions for my teammates which caused a huge unwanted inventories in factory. But it was fun, we were unable to reverse the damage at the end of the game.
Bad decisions are made at the end of retailers, which cause huge unwanteded inventory storage and production and which lastly turned a drstic bull whip effect .
I learned if we increased the external demand extremely it leads to the creation a huge un reversible bullwhip effect and unable to stabilise the order patterns throughout the stages.
If customers demand is 4 8 4 8 4 8 patterns then my optimal demand will be the average of both 4 and 8 , so that i can meet the demand optimally by having an optimum order of 6.
The main objective of the players is to minimise the cost of maintaining sufficient inventories of beer while same time avoiding out of stock conditions which leads to loss of customers,
