19 a) Correct statement: SN2 reaction is taking place in single step and is stereospecific in nature.

The SN2 reaction proceeds in one step through a transition state and product has just opposite absolute configuration (if reactant has R absolute configuration then product would have S absolute configuration) hence, it is stereospecific in nature.

b) There is a an attack of hydroxide ion from back side of leaving group Cl which form a penta coordinated transition state a
