Answer #1
  • THE MAJOR SOURCE OF SUGAR IS FROM THE FOOD WE ATE MAINLY CARBOHYDRATES SUCH RICE AND THOSE WHICH QUICKLY CONVERTED INTO ENERGY LIKE BREAD,FRUITS,SUGAR ETC.PROTEIN CONTENT FOOD ALSO CONTAIN GLUCOSE.
  • WHEN THIS GLUCOSE FLOW THROUGH BLOOD STREAM CALLED BLOOD GLUCOSE.
  • INSULIN IS THE HORMONE RESPONSIBLE FOR THE CONVERSION OF THE FOOD GLUCOSE INTO ENERGY.
  • INSULIN ALLOWS THE MUSCLE,LIVER,TISSUE TO TAKE THE GLUCOSE AND USE IT AS AN ENERGY SOURCE IN ORDER TO FUNCTION PROPERLY.
  • GLUCOSE IN THE BODY IS STORED IN THE FORM OF GLYCOGEN.
  • THE PANCREAS RELEASE TH GLUCAGON WHEN THE INSULIN IN THE BLOOD STREAM FALL TOO LOW.
  • THE LIVER WILL CONVERT THE RELEASED GLUCAGON INTO GLUCOSE INTO THE BLOOD STREAM
  • HIGH LEVEL OF GLUCOSE STIMULATE THE RELEASE OF INSULIN AND MAINTAIN THE LEVEL.
  • THE GLUT1 AND GLUT3 IS LOCATED IN THE PLASMA MEMBRANE OF THE CELL

The patient was a 2 year old boy who presented with fasting hypoglycemia and acidosis. The liver was enlarged three-fold and kidneys two-fold. Hypoglycemia responded to oral doses of glucose but not to administered glucagon or epinephrine. During hypoglycemic episodes, lactic acid in the blood increased almost 10-fold higher than normal. Unlike the response in normal individuals, administration of oral galactose did not increase blood glucose concentrations but blood lactate levels were increased. Urine contained high levels of lactate. A...
