Question

separation processes

The goal is to separate methanol from water using distillation. We have a 50-50 feed input as a two-phase mixture with 50% vaporized coming in at 500 kmol/hr. The column is well insulated and has a total condenser. A reflux is set to 2 and returned as saturated liquid. The composition in the distillate and bottoms are to be 0.95 and 0.05 mole fractions, respectively. The column is at 1 atm. If 100 kmol/hr were taken off as saturated liquid somewhere in the column such the composition is 0.75 mole fraction methanol, what is the optimal stage for this? How many stages are there?
