Answer #1

Electron Donor is H2S

Electron acceptor is Oxygen

Overall reaction: H2S + 1/2 O2 = S0 + H2O

Higher value of E0 indicates that in the reaction there is more probability of reduction reaction and lower value of E0 means chance of oxidation is more. In this reaction Oxygen is reduced which means it gains electron and its E0 value is highest (+0.82). So it is best electron acceptor. In this reaction H2S lost hydrogen which means it get oxidized and thus it loses electron. Its E0 value is lowest (-0.30). So H2S is the best electron donor.

    10. Write a one-page summary of the attached paper? INTRODUCTION Many problems can develop in activated sludge operation that adversely affect effluent quality with origins in the engineering, hydraulic and microbiological components of the process. The real "heart" of the activated sludge system is the development and maintenance of a mixed microbial culture (activated sludge) that treats wastewater and which can be managed. One definition of a wastewater treatment plant operator is a "bug farmer", one who controls the aeration...
