Nationalism- It is a way of thinking or an ideology that believes a specific group of humans should freely rule themselves.It believes that one's nation is the supreme and best of all other countries.It doesn't encourage the ideologies which believes in helping other nationals in solving shared problems.
Concept of nationalism refers to two phenomenal descriptions- 1) Member of the nation possesses nationalist attitude when they relate their identity with their nation. 2) While achieving self determination the nationalist take the action is considered as nationalism.
Difference between patriotism and nationalism- One's pride and affection about his/her nation and nationalism is the belief of superiority of its nation.
Patriotism holds the feeling of responsibility whereas nationalism holds the feeling of arrogance.
Nature of patriotism is defensive for its nation whether militarily or culturally whereas Nationalism refers the nature of inseparability from desire of power.
Both are contrasting but somehow interlinked as Patriotism holds the feeling of willingness to defend one's country whereas Nationalism is transformed patriotism which led to aggression towards other countries.
Example of Nationalism - 1) German Nationalism- It is an ideology which believes in superiority of the German Nation and it takes pride in German's identity related to their nation.It was originated during Napoleonic Wars.
Its aggressiveness led to both World Wars. In 1930, Nazis started creating German identity and Greatness as a superior one by excluding the others which led to extermination of Jews , Romani and others in the period of World War II.
2)Indian Nationalism- It was the kind of territorial nationalism despite of the religion, ethinicity, and other diverse background it is inclusive of all.It was originated during the Indian war of Independence fought against British Government.
