The assignment to the variable k will never be executed. Compilers are pretty good at detecting unreachable code, but what's the general verdict on this problem? What language class is able to deal with this? (Automata, RE, CFG, Turing Machine)

Most people think that compilation will stop before unreachable code.Actually most compilers just gives a warning about unreachable code and compilation process will continue.This is the general verdict.
