How could you separate a solution of benzoic acid and tetradecane? Use words to explain please. Boiling points are too similar to use.
1. dissolve both compounds in ether. (benzoic acid is active and tetradecane is nutral compound) and take in separating funnel.
2. add aq. bicarbonate solution to the mixture , shake the separationg funnel for 5 min. separate the aq. layer.
3. benzoic acid comes into aq. layer, and tetra decane remains in the ethar layer.
4. add aq. Hcl solution to the aq. layer and obtained ppt was filtered to get benzoic acid.
Ph cooH + NaHCO3 ....> Ph COONa + CO2+ H2O
Ph COONa + HCl .........> PHCOOH + NaCl
5. organic layer evoparated to get tetra decane.

Explain how you could separate benzoic acid and phenol using an acid-base extraction
Explain how you would separate a picture containing benzophenone, benzoic acid, p-ethylphenol, and p-toluidine? Use a flow chart that clearly shoes the procedure. Begin by dissolving the mixture in diethyl ether.
Draw a flow chart to explain how you might separate a mixture of benzoic acid, aniline, and 1,4-dimethoxybenzene with the general details of how the separation should be accomplished, including the curved arrow mechanisms of all the reactions.
Given a mixture of KI, benzoic acid, naphthalene, and 1-adamantanamine, how would you separate them into individual components using liquid-liquid extraction? Use a flow chart to explain the process.
17. Draw a flow sheet to show how you would separate a mixture of benzoic acid, 2-naphthol, aniline, and naphthalene. (indicate the solvent, location and composition of each layer). Draw all balanced equations. (6') Reagents available: 3M hydrochloric acid solution, 3M sodium hydroxide solution, 3M sodium bicarbonate solution, saturated sodium chloride solution Solvent available: water, dichloromethane, ethanol, and diethyl ether. 17. Draw a flow sheet to show how you would separate a mixture of benzoic acid, 2-naphthol, aniline, and naphthalene....
please help! 4. Describe how to separate a mixture of phenol, benzoic acid, and toluene using aqueous NaHCO3, aqueous NaOH, and ether. NaOH can separate the shenol and NaHCO3 can be used for benzoic acid because it dissolved in it. Toluene will be more difficult because it doesn't dissolve in noot or Nation, but the ether can be used for it.
Calculate the molality of benzoic acid / TBOH solution and use the measured ΔTf (the change in freezing points) to calculate the value of Kf for TBOH. Change in freezing points is 9.1 c TBOH used is 3.2071g and Benzoic Acid used is 0.4083g
(a) Calculate the ratio of dissolved benzoic acid to benzoic ion that will exist in solution at equilibrium at pH of 2.00. The acid equilibrium constant (Ka) for benzoic acid is 6.46x10^-5. Note that this calculation doesn't account for the benzoic acid that has precipitated from solution, but you can assume that the higher the ratio, the more benzoic acid will precipitate. (b) Carry out the same calculation for a pH of 4.00, and explain why it was important to...
Write a procedure of how you would separate benzoic acid (acidic), decane (neutral), and adenine (basic) using extraction. All three neutral substances dissolve in dichloromethane.
1. Calculate the molality of benzoic acid / TBOH solution and use the measured ΔTf (the change in freezing points) to calculate the value of Kf for TBOH. Change in freezing points is 9.1 c TBOH used is 3.2071g and Benzoic Acid used is 0.4083g 2. Obtain the freezing point of the unknown compound/ TBOH solution from the plateau of the curves. Use your calculated Kf value above for TBOH and the measured ΔTf of the unknown compound (the change...
