A supersonic jet traveling at Mach 2.5 at an altitude of 2x10^4 m is directly ovwer a person at time t = 0. Assume the average speed of sound in the air is 335m/s over the path of the sound. At what time will th eperson encounter the shock wave due to the sound emitted at t = 0?

Answer #1

Since the person to position sound emitted at t=0 is perpendicular to the line of flight, the speed of shock wave in the direction of person for the wave emitted at t=0 will be the velocity of speed

So time at which the person will experience the shockwave due to sound emitted at t=0 = distance/speed of sound = 20000/335 = 59.7s

Question 3 - 70 Marks In this question we are considering a scramjet engine. A scramjet engine is a high-speed propulsion engine which begins working at approximately Mach 5. Similar to a regular jet engine, the air is compressed in the inlet, fuel is added and combustion occurs in the combustion chamber and the higher pressure and temperature mixture is then exhausted through a nozzle to provide thrust. Unlike a conventional jet engine the air is compressed using the shock...
