Answer #1

7) The actual number of leukocytes counted is 109

38 + 1+ 4+ 8 + 58 = 109

8) Percentage of basophill = ( count of basophil/total count of leukocytes) * 100

= (38/ 109 ) * 100 = 35 %

9) Esosinphils and basophils might confuse because the shape of nuclei of these cells are slightly similar. hence they are difficult to be identified by their shape of nuclei.

A “blood count” is a widely-used laboratory test. The test consists of (1) a count of the total number of white blood cells in a blood sample and (2) how many lymphocytes, neutrophils, monocytes, eosinophils and basophils are present in the sample. The probability of being a neutrophil is 0.06. Assuming a binomial probabilistic model for the number of neutrophils, determine: a) What is the probability that 4 out of 100 white blood cells in the sample are neutrophils?
