The most common causes of choking are

1. Not chewing food properly, therefore choking occurs when we try to swallow these large pieces of poorly chewed food.

2. Drinking alcohol before or during meals (when we drink alcohol, it dulls the nerves that help in swallowing of food.

3. Choking also occurs when we talk excitedly or laugh while eating

4. When we are eating food too quickly

5. When we walk, play or run with food in our mouth.
