Political parties are widely considered to be institutions that are necessary for democratic governments. How important to democracy is a stable system of political parties in the twenty-first century? Discuss with reference to the role of political parties in two countries (the United States must be one of them).

Stable system of political parties helps to bring one party in power after the election as a part of democracy and rest of the parties in opposition in democracy. It means that party making government is always under the vigilance and cross checked by the opposition parties. It means that party with power has to carefully planned and implement policies that are for the welfare of people. It brings strength to the democracy and democracy becomes stronger. So, it establishes the fact that stable system of political parties are very important to the democracy and its development in the country and democratic values are maintained.

For example, in the USA, a stable system of democratic party and Republican party has given the right choice to the people of the USA to put one party in power on the basis of their electoral promises and agenda. But, other party has also the important role to play in Senate to  control the actions of the party in power. If a party does not do well, then people elect another party to the power. On a similar note, in a country of India, People can elect any political party or an alliance of parties such as NDA or UPA to put in power. But, if one alliance is in power, then other parties are in opposition that constantly force the government to work for the democratic values and enhance the welfare of people. So, democracy is alive. It is only due to the reason that there is an stable system of political parties in these countries.
