Inheritance pattern in BRCA 1
Describe the inheritance pattern of BRCA 1 Is it recessive or dominant? Autosomal or sex- linked? Be sure to describe the genotypes and phenotypes of both the affected individuals and their parents. Are there any non-Mendelian inheritance patterns involved (e.g., co-dominance or incomplete dominance)? what does this inheritance pattern mean for individuals who have the mutated gene? use at least one diagram and text to convey this information. A pedigree chart is often a useful figure to include, but whatever type of diagram you use, you must be sure to cite the figure in the text, and explain the figure’s relevance. pls provide source because I can't find anything helpful

Answer #1

Mutations in the BRCA1 and BRCA2 genes are inherited in an autosomal dominant pattern, which means one copy of the altered gene in each cell is sufficient to develop breast cancer.

Aa x aa

Affected x unaffected

A a
a Aa aa
a Aa aa

If one parent is suffering from BRCA1 mutation he or she can have Aa genotype and the other parent is normal then 50% of the children will remain affected and 50% of the children will be normal.

No  non-Mendelian inheritance patterns involved here.

Review This pedigree shows the inheritance pattern of a recessive maternal effect gene in Drosophila. In maternal effect, the offspring's phenotype is under the control of nuclear gene products present in the mother's egg. In this example, the presence of the at allele in the mother is required for proper wing development in the offspring. PEDIGREES When a trait follows Mendelian inheritance it is often possible to figure out its dominance state by using a pedigree. Below are four pedigrees for four different traits. They are all autosomal traits (meaning they are not inherited on the X or Y chromosomes). For each trait, determine if it is dominant, recessive or unable to be determined. And explain each answer If it helps your explanation, you may label the symbols with letters Remember squares are males, circles...
