Halophile is salt loving, They are extremophiles which live in high saline environment. They adapt different strategies to survive in the extreme salt conditions. These adaptations are-
- They have osmoprotectacts called compatible solutes like sugars, polyols, betains. These maintain the osmolarity and prevent osmotic movement of water out of the cytoplasm
- They have many negative charged acidic aminoacids in the proteins and have a selective influx of K+ ions .These K+ ions protect the proteins by forming a shell.
- The acidic proteins resist the denaturating effect of the salt.
Hence the halophile survived 250 million years
