Answer #1

Balanced equation,

Pb(NO3)2 (aq.) + Na2SO4 (aq.) ---------> PbSO4 (s) + 2 NaNO3 (aq.)

Formula of the precipitate = PbSO4

[Pb^2+] = 0.00016 * 255 / ( 255 + 456 ) = 0.0000574 M

[SO4^2-] = 0.00023 * 456 / ( 255 + 456 ) = 0.000148 M

Solubility eqution,

PbSO4 (s) Pb^2+ (aq.) + SO4^2- (aq.)

Solubility product expression can be written as,

Qsp = [Pb^2+][SO4^2-] = ( 0.0000574 ) ( 0.000148 ) = 8.50 X 10^-9

Given Ksp = 1.7 X 10^-8

SInce Qsp < Ksp ; no precipitation takes place.
