How have humans genetically modified organisms for use in cloning? What are some examples of different types of clones (hint: don’t forget about bacteria clones, like the GMO bacteria that make synthetic human insulin)? What are the potential benefits of creating and using clones? What are some potential consequences of creating and using clones?

Can you please use APA in text citation? (3-4 sources)

Answer #1

Answer:

  • Genetically modified organisms are created by inserting foreign genes to get a desired trait. For example genetically modified livestock, fish. their quality of meat, milk, disease resistance will be improved.
  • So once a genetically modified organism with desired traits are developed and the later cloned , we get n number of the best organism.
  • Clones are organisms created by replicating abiotically most or all of the parent DNA.
  • Cloning helps in reproducing the healthiest animals thus minimizing use of antibiotics, growth hormones, chemicals.
  • cloning stem cells create embryos for research purpose like understanding a particular disease, developing new treatments etc
  • Cloning may cause health issues. The genetic defects of the original organism will be transferred to the clone as well.

Cloning organisms involves the use of embryos. There are ethical concerns about genetically modifying humans. GMOs can help treat human diseases. FDA testing shows no difference in the product of treated or untreated organisms. What are genetically modified organisms (GMOs)? Plants have been genetically engineered to contain added nutrients for better human health or pesticide resistance genes to decrease the use of pesticides. Some scientists fear that GMO crops containing added foreign genes may lead to the generation of 'super weeds'. Do you think the pros of GMOs outweigh the cons?

Promoters of genetically modified organisms often make the remark that humans have been genetically modifying organisms for millennia, through artificial selection and breeding techniques. Detractors, however, argue that there is a qualitative difference between selective breeding and genetic modification, and that this difference is important enough to cause great concern. Write an essay that will compare and contrast artificial selection and genetic engineering of crops. Your thesis should either argue that genetic modification is merely an extension of an ancient process,...

Assignment Details Ethics of Cloning Cloning is the process of producing genetically identical individuals. Some organisms, such as bacteria, insects, or plants reproduce asexually, essentially cloning themselves. Humans have developed techniques to clone a wide variety of mammals, and you can see these advancements in the news often these days. Since the cloning of Dolly the Sheep in 1996, great strides have been made to increase the efficiency of the process, increase the health of clones, and reduce and eliminate...

A cell's genome is its blueprint for life. However, what is the bare minimum number of genes needed to sustain a free-living cell? This is a question that microbiologists at the J. Craig Venter Institute (JCVI) have attempted to answer ever since they sequenced the genomes of several Mycoplasma species in the 1990s. Because Mycoplasma species are parasitic bacteria, their genomes are already reduced in size and hence provide an excellent foundation for creating a "minimal cell." However, little did...
