Cam data:
0 to 900 bottom dwell,
900 to 1800 rise for 60 mm with uniform velocity
1800 to 2700 top dwell
2700 to 3600 fall for 60 mm with SHM
Minimum cam diameter 50 mm
In-line roller follower, diameter 10 mm

Answer #1

Refer to the solution. I have drawn the cam profile but you need to draw it on your own for better understanding.

1)Draw half-circle as in diagram-1 divide into 6 parts each of 30degrees. I have taken scale as 1cm=18, please take it as 1cm=15units. The answer will be the same and easy to draw a cam profile.

2)As it's an in-line cam follower, the follower lies on-axis. For the dwell period draw the curve connecting 2 points. Name the points with letters. Each part is of 90degrees.(360/4=90degree each)

A translating cam-follower is to be designed for a Rise-Dwell-Fall-Dwell (RDFD) application in which vibrations must be considered. The cam is to move the follower from 0 to 35 mm in 70°, dwell for 100, fall back to 0 mm in 80°, and dwell for the remainder of the cycle. In addition, the cam must rotate at an angular velocity of 60 RPM. The position (s), velocity (v), and acceleration (a) curves during the rise period are defined by the...

Design a rise-fall-dwell cam-follower motion profile that will rise from 0 to 7 mm in 0.5 seconds, then fall for 0.5 seconds back to 0 mm, and then dwell for 1 second. Note that this produces a symmetric rise-fall curve. There should be no overshoot, and the motion should be relatively smooth. Your final follower motion profile s(θ) should be in terms of cam angle θ.

Cam Design ProblemDesign a double-dwell cam to move a follower (roller-type) from 0 to 150 mm in 80◦, dwell for 90◦, fall 150 mm in 80◦, and dwell for the reminder of the cycle. The total cam cycle takes 10 sec. Consider an application in which vibrations must be minimized. Assume that the pitch radius, Rp = 500 mm, the cam-follower has zero eccentricity, ε = 0, and the roller raduis is Rf =50 mm. Any other parameters may be...
