Answer #1

Solution:

To test whether the slope of the regression equation is significant we use the t-test.

The test statistic is:

with n - 2 degrees of freedom

Where:

r is the correlation coefficient between the dependent and independent variables

n is the number of pairs of observations

Question 2 The soil profile at a level site consists of a 3-m thick layer of sandy clay, overlaying an 8-m thick layer of loose sand, overlaying stiff gravelly clays that extend to depths greater than 20 m. The water table is at a depth of 2 m and the ground water is initially hydrostatic. The total unit weight of the upper sandy clay, above or below the water table, is 18 kN/m3. The total unit weight of the loose...

ORGANIC LAB: Separating a Mixture of two Unknowns, different acidity I have a mixture of two unknowns, both solids, in my Organic Chemistry lab. I have to separate them, then find out what each compound is. The only thing I really have that I can go by is that they have different acidities, each is either an acid (weak or strong), a base, or a neutral, and one can't be what the other is. I found a separation technique that...

Any answers in depth would be very appreciated. 1. I have an organic unknown and want to know if it is an acid or a base. What are all the possible ways to find out? Clearly indicate how you’d differentiate between an amine, a carboxylic acid, and a phenol. 2. I have a compound that turns litmus red, and very slowly causes effervescence in bicarbonate, but only with vigorous mixing. I performed the ester test and it looked okay, but...

Trees have depth, not height question. On Section 7.2's practice questions there was an exercise "What is the height of this tree?" to which one of the answers were "Trees have depth, not height." How would you respond if you asked a Data Structures student that question and they responded with that answer?

How can it be 'mind over matter' in certain contexts? The mind-body problem is a very, very, old puzzle in philosophy. It is trying to explain how our 'what-it's-likenesses' relate to our bodily states. It's trying to explain how our thoughts,...

I have a mixture of three compounds and I want to separate them. The compounds are ethyl aminobenzoate (50%), benzoin (40%), and 1,4-dibromobenzene(10%). I started the experiment by dissolving the mixture in the methylene chloride, then I added HCl, so I got two layers, first one is aqueous layer that contain ethyl aminobenzoate, and the second one is organic layer that contain benzoin and 1,4-dibromobenzene. After that I add NaOH to aqueous layer and I got a solid, then I...
