In general, in the laboratory, when we are given 5X stock solution it means we have to dilute it to 1X stock solution before using.

In our case, we have to dilute the 5X stock solution to 5% solution, we can assume that here 1X = 5%

a) Thus, applying V1S1 = V2S2

V1 x 5X = 1X x 500,

V1 = 500 x 1X / 5X = 100 mL

Thus, volume of the 5X stock needed is 100 mL

b) And let's say concentration of 5X solution is y%,

Then, y x 100 = 5 x 500

y = 2500/100 = 25%

So, concentration of the 5X stock solution is 25%.
