Studies are often done by pharmaceutical companies to determine the effectiveness of a treatment program. Suppose that a new AIDS antibody drug is currently under study. It is given to patients once the AIDS symptoms have revealed themselves. Of interest is the average (mean) length of time in months patients live once starting the treatment. Two researchers each follow a different set of 40 AIDS patients from the start of treatment until their deaths. The following data (in months) are collected. Researcher A: 3; 4; 11; 15; 16; 17; 22; 44; 37; 16; 14; 24; 25; 15; 26; 27; 33; 29; 35; 44; 13; 21; 22; 10; 12; 8; 40; 32; 26; 27; 31; 34; 29; 17; 8; 24; 18; 47; 33; 34 Complete the tables using the data provided: Researcher A Survival Length (in months) Frequency Relative Frequency Cumulative Relative Frequency 0.5–6.5 2 2/40 0.05 6.5–12.5 5 5/40 0.05+0.125=0.175 12.5–18.5 9 9/40

0.175+0.225=0.4 18.5–24.5 5 5/40 0.4+0.125=0.525 24.5–30.5 7 7/40 0.525+0.175=0.7 30.5–36.5 7 7/40 0.7+0.175=0.875 36.5–42.5 2 2/40 8.75+0.05=8.8 42.5–48.5 3 3/40 8.8+0.075=8.875 Answer 1: 2 Answer 2: 2/40 Answer 3: 0.05 Answer 4: 5 Answer 5: 5/40 Answer 6: 0.05+0.125=0.175

My class says my answers are wrong. This differs than the one that is answered on here because there is only one research group, Group A, there is not a Group B

Answer #1

Arrange the data in ascending order and complete the frequency table.

yours mistake is at the length 36.5–42.5 2 2/40 8.75+0.05=8.8 ***( It is 0.875 u have used 8.75)

The frequency table for the survival length of researcher A is as follows

Survival Length Frequency Relative Frequency (Frequency/Total) Cumulative Relative frequency
0.5 - 6.5 2 0.05 0.05
6.5 - 12.5 5 0.125 0.175
12.5 - 18.5 9 0.225 0.4
18.5 - 24.5 5 0.125 0.525
24.5 - 30.5 7 0.175 0.7
30.5 - 36.5 7 0.175 0.875
36.5 - 42.5 2 0.05 0.925
42.5 - 48.5 3 0.075 1
Total 40

A study was conducted to determine if a walking plus strength training exercise program results in a significantly greater increase in aerobic capacity as compared to a walking only exercise program. Participants are randomly selected and then randomly assigned to one of the exercise groups. Participants’ aerobic endurance was assessed at the beginning of the study and, again, after 6-months of exercise. Coding for study variables: AGE—age in years SEX—1 =male, 2=female EXERCISE—1= walking and strength training; 2 = walking;...
