In a recent year, gasoline-powered passenger cars in a certain county of Ohio consumed 28,417,000 million BTU and traveled 6.068 billion miles. Assuming a conversion rate equal to 114,000 BTU per gallon for regular liquid gasoline, what was the fuel efficiency in miles per gallon (do not include units)?

Answer #1

114,000 BTU is actually 1 Gallon

Therefore, 28417000 BTU will be equivalent to (1/114000)*28417000 Gallons

= 249.27 Gallons

Fuel efficiency = Total Distance travelled/fuel.consumed

= (6068million/249.27gallons)

= 24.34 millions per gallon

The maker of a certain model car claimed that the car averaged at least 36 miles per gallon of gasoline. A sample of nine cars was selected and each car was driven with one gallon of regular gasoline. The sample showed a mean of 34.43 miles with a standard deviation of 3 miles. Assume you doubt that the car can achieve 36 miles per gallon - you believe the fuel efficiency would actually be lower. State your hypothesis and test...

A liter is 0.264179 gallons. Write a program that will read in the number of liters of gasoline consumed by the user's car and the number of miles per gallon the car delivered. Your program should allow the user to repeat this calculation as often as the user wishes. Define a function to compute the number of miles per gallon. Your program should use a globally defined constant for the number of liters per gallon. After doing this... Modify your...
