Blake is a college lacrosse player and is currently in season. His schedule is quite demanding with school, practice, and games. In order to perform at his best, it is imperative that Blake gets the recommended amounts of the macronutrients in his diet and also fuels his body before, during, and after his practices/games. Blake weighs 176 pounds and his total caloric intake is 3200 calories/day. Approximately, how many grams of carbohydrates should Blake consume during a 60 minute practice?

Carbohydrates make up an important part of balanced diet and is very important constitute of food which is necessary for energy.

Carbohydrates provide 4 calories per gram.

Athletes should consume anywhere near 2 to 5 gm of carbohydrates per pound of their weight. So the amount of carbohydrate Blake should consume should be anywhere around 352- 700gm.

Also the other way you can count the carbohydrate need is by 45-60% of your calorie requirement and dividing it by 4. Here we use 4 because carbohydrate gives 4 gm calorie. It is not usually employed for athletes.

= 3200÷60×4 = 213 but since he's an athlete he'll require the above mentioned range.
