cookie are used to store credentials like user name password to authentication cookies are the most common method used by web servers to know whether the user is logged in or not, and which account they are logged in with.

Allowing a web site to create a cookie does not give the site access to the rest of your computer, and only the site that created the cookie can read it. Credit card information is never stored in cookies.
