ASCE code (American Society Of Civil Engineers) first canon said 'Engineers shall hold paramount the safety, health and welfare of the public and shall strive to comply with the principles of sustainable development in the performance of their professional duties'.

This is the first guideline of ASCE, so this provision given the priority among other guidelines.

According to this guideline Engineer should take judgement that do not affect lives, safety, health and welfare of the public and help in sustainable environment.
