Historical or generational trauma refers to trauma that occurs as the result of the suppression and violence that was experienced by a group of people. This discrimination and oppression for a long period of time would put that particular group of people at a great disadvantage. This disadvantage that was accumulated over generations would affect someone in the present generation because they would feel abandoned, disadvantaged and helpless. This trauma would make them feel inferior and would make them weak because their genetic make-up and the social norms would limit their movement across the society and politics thus leaving them demotivated.
