The ring is dissolved in concentrated nitric acid (HNO3) to give Zn2+ and Ag+ ions; the metals are oxidized by the oxidizing agents like nitric acid (H+ and NO3 -).

The resulting solution is diluted in a volumetric flask and is used for further analysis.

To the solution obtained, add Potassium Ferrocyanide ( K4[Fe(CN)6] ).If a white precipitate is formed, it confirms the presence of Zinc as the white precipitate formed is Zinc Ferrocyanide ( Zn2[Fe(CN)6] ) .
