A 0.2 kg tennis ball attached to a 2 m long string is being swung in a horizontal plane at 200rpm, what is the tension in the string? please help, my professor got 175 N but i am not sure how.

Mass of the tennis ball = m = 0.2 kg

Length of the string = R = 2 m

Rotational speed of the ball = N = 200 rpm

Angular speed of the ball =

= 2N/60

= 2(200)/60

= 20.94 rad/s

Tension in the string = T

The tension in the string provides the ball with the necessary centripetal force for its circular motion.

T = m2R

T = (0.2)(20.94)2(2)

T = 175.39 N

Tension in the string = 175.39 N
