When cellulose undergoes nitration, all its OH groups react to form ONO2.

Therefore, the equation for the nitration of cellulose can be written as follows.

{C6H7(OH)3O2}n + 3n HNO3 ----> {C6H7(ONO2)3O2}n + 3n H2O
