You want to make the well width such that an electron making a transition from the n=2 energy level to the n=1 energy level emits a photon of 1500 nm. Assuming the device can be modeled by the 1-D infinite square well, calculate the needed well width. (20 points) b. Based on your calculation, consult the attached figure. Knowing that you will need to make the well from one of the semiconductors on the figure, which semiconductor can give you the desired well width (or pretty close) you calculated above? (Recall that the well will need to be made up of layers of the semiconductor with a given lattice constant. Give reasons for your choice.
