describe the cell wall structure of salmonella typhi, Does salmonella typhi have any other cell envelope layers beyond the cell wall, if so describe them. Is salmonella typhi flagellated, describe the flagellar arrangement. Does salmonella typhi form endospores ? If it does, what is the function of them? if it does not, does your organism have any other specific survival adaptations? What is the correct metabolic term for salmonella typhi? what accuratley describes oxygen requirements of my microbe? What are two ways that growth of salmonella typhi can be controlled?

Answer #1

Salmonella typhi is a motile, aerobic, Gram-negative (G-ve) rod-shaped bacteria popularly known for causing Typhoid fever. Being a G-ve bacteria, it has the characteristic thin cell wall made up of Peptidoglycan sandwiched between outer and inner membranes. Outer to the Cell wall, it has a hard capsule made up of lipopolysaccharides to provide resistance from different exterior factors.

Yes, In Salmonella typhi an Outer Cell Membrane and the Periplasmic Space are also present in association to the Cell Envelope(Inner cell membrane, cell wall, and capsule). i)The outer cell membrane consists of many repeated lipopolysaccharide chains and some proteins called Outer Membrane Proteins responsible for the virulence nature of bacteria. The membrane also has multiple side chains emerging from it. ii)The space between the two membranes is called the Periplasmic Space. It is a concentrated jelly-like matrix.

Yes, S.typhi has multiple Peritrichous Flagella(flagella all around the cell body) being rotated at 200 revolutions/second.

NO. Salmonella species typically are non-spore-forming in nature

A cell's genome is its blueprint for life. However, what is the bare minimum number of genes needed to sustain a free-living cell? This is a question that microbiologists at the J. Craig Venter Institute (JCVI) have attempted to answer ever since they sequenced the genomes of several Mycoplasma species in the 1990s. Because Mycoplasma species are parasitic bacteria, their genomes are already reduced in size and hence provide an excellent foundation for creating a "minimal cell." However, little did...
