Why can polymers operate only at low temperatures, even though

polymer chains contain covalent bonds just like ceramics? Explain.

Most plastics at room temperature show their familiar of flexibility and high resistance to cracking bat when the temperature decreases this can change rapidly and many common plastics become brittle with low failure stresses. plastics consists of long chain molecules that are entangled with one another . the degree of entangled varies with the length and exact shape of the polymer molecule. long chains in most polymers at moderate temperature are able to slither over one another and the material is flexible and does not crack they are considered to be in a robbery state . As the temperature is decreased most polymer begin to stiffen up and they go though what is known as the glass transition to become effectively glass solids with all the properties of glass that is they become very hard and also very brittle.
