Compounds which dissociates in solution in their respective ions are called electrolytes.

All ionic compounds dissociates in water to form ions and acts as electrolytes .

Covalent compounds do not dissociates in water to give ions , hence covalent compounds are generally non-electrolyte.

Sulfur dioxide is a covalent compound. It doesn't form any ions when dissolved in water , hence it is a non-electrolyte.

Calcium sulfate is an ionic compound. It dissociates in calcium ion and sulfate ion when dissolved in water. Hence it is a electrolyte.
