Answer #1

Data set 4:

Following table shows the ordered data set :

S.No. Data
1 8
2 9
3 10
4 11
5 12
6 12
7 13
8 13
9 15
10 72

Five number summary:

Minimum: 8

First quartile: There are 5 data values. So first quartile will be 3rd data value. Therefore

Median: Median will be average of 5th and 6th data values. Therefore

Third quartile: There are 5 data values. So third quartile will be 8th data value. Therefore

Maximum : 72

Interquartile range:

Fences:

Lower fence:

Upper fence:

Since data value 72 is not within fences so 72 is an outlier.

Data set 5:

Following table shows the ordered data set :

S.No. Data
1 15
2 85
3 87
4 88
5 89
6 90
7 92
8 95
9 98
10 100

Five number summary:

Minimum: 15

First quartile: There are 5 data values. So first quartile will be 3rd data value. Therefore

Median: Median will be average of 5th and 6th data values. Therefore

Third quartile: There are 5 data values. So third quartile will be 8th data value. Therefore

Maximum : 100

Interquartile range:

Fences:

Lower fence:

Upper fence:

Since data value 15 is not within fences so 15 is an outlier.
