how is the effectiveness of a corrective action measured, and what happens if the necessary corrective action is not performed in a timely fashion?
After a corrective action is identified and put at place, it is important to measure its effectiveness through continuously tracking it and comparing its outcome with the performance expectations. The simplest way of identifying the effectiveness of a corrective measure is through comparing the old results with the new one after corrective measure is out at place and analysing the improvement. Effectiveness of corrective action is also measuref through tracking performance continuously.
One such efficient way of tracking the effectiveness is Layered Order process (LPA's)
Layeted Audit process is basically an effectiveness monitoring and tracking process which performs audits in layers to determine the weak or risk areas so that such areas are addressed. It is important to understand the underlying or root cause behind the corrective action not meeting expectations by performing a shollow root cause analysis which reflects how much improvement has been made to the current problem after putting the corrective action at place,
The best example can be : After a defect in shoe pair is identified and corrective action is put at place to prevent such defect from taking place, the next most important step will be evaluating the shoes after corrective action is put at place to ensure no such defective items are now produced.
.
If necessary corrective action is not performed in a timely manner it can produce dreadful results. No putting any corrective action at place would mean leaving the current problem unaddressed which can escalate the complexities and degree of risk associated with the problem and thus hampering the smooth flow of activities and tasks interdependent on the area where problem existed. Not performing corrective action in a timely manner can further increase the chances of quality escapes and ineffective outcome which might not meet the expectations and deviate from the intended results. Delaying the problem solving might also results into customer complaints and damage to the production norms of organization damaging brand image. Therefore it is important to target the problem area at right time without any lag to prevent complications from taking domination in the project.
