A transistor will operate at a case temperature of 100ºC. When the transistor is ON, the voltage across it is 1V, and the load current is 5A. When the transistor is OFF, the voltage across it is 75V, and the leakage current is 100mA. The transistor is operated at 60% duty ratio (d=0.6). There is no switching loss. A heat sink needs to be attached to the transistor to operate it at 46ºC ambient temperature. Assume the thermal coefficient θcs is zero. Determine the required thermal co-efficient θsa of the heat sink (ºC/W).

Problem #1 Suppose a Si diode has a forward voltage drop of 1.492V at room temperature, and suppose its IV curve is so steep that the forward voltage drop is independent of current. The diode is a cylinder 0.069mm in radius, 0.053018mm deep and is glass encapsulated. The glass package is 0.09619mm in thickness, and is held at 26°C (room temperature) by a thermally conductive blanket. Ctri Question 3 (20 Marks) Lab 1-Zener Circuits and Applications Theory: Zener diode is designed to operate in reverse conduction. Zener breakdown occurs at a precisely defined voltage, allowing the diode to be used as a voltage reference or clipper. While Zener diodes are usually operated in reverse conduction, they may also be operated in cutoff and forward conduction. There are two different effects that are used in "Zener diodes". The only practical difference is that the two types have...
