Vectors used in biotechnology facilitate the following:
a. transport
b. replication
c. purification
d. All of the above
e. both a & b
Vector in biotechnology means vehicle. These are carriers of DNA molecules into the host. They act as a means of transport for molecules to reach their host. The answer to the question is all of the above because the primary function of a vector is to transport, transport the molecules, it replicates in the host so is able to express itself in host with its machinery and function as the purifier too. There are 2 types of vector Cloning vector and expressing vector. Cloning vector as the name tells helps in making many copies that are identical but they lack the function of purification.
Expressing vector perform the function of purification also with transportation and replication. They help in purification of proteins, separate the proteins that are needed. The cloning vectors can't perform this function.
Vectors are the most important part of biotechnology and they facilitates transport, replication and purification.
