Consider a noisy AWGN (Additive White Gaussian Noise) communication channel with a bandwidth of 12 KHz. Is it possible to transmit reliably over this channel at a bit rate of 150 Kbps with an SNR (Signal to Noise Ratio) of 35 dB? Justify your answer
In real life, we don't have noiseless channels. There is always some noise in channels. Shannon capacity is used to determine the theoretical highest data rate for a noisy channel.
We have, Shannon capacity = Bandwidth * log2(1 + SNR)
Here, SNR is the signal to noise ratio.
In this question, we have bandwidth = 12 KHz and SNR = 35 dB. Let's calculate the shannon capacity of this channel. Plugging in the values, we get Shannon capacity = 62.04 Kbps.
SNR (dB) = 10 log10(SNR). From this we get the value of SNR to be 103.5 = 3162.27.
So the maximum possible bit rate for this channel is equal to 139.53 kbps. Hence, we cannot transmit over this channel at a bit rate of 150 kbps.

Consider additive white Gaussian noise with a double-sided noise power spectral density (PSD) 12-90 dBm/Hz 1E-12 W/Hz. This noise corrupts a baseband polar NRZ signal with rectangular pulses, like that 1 mV and the pulse duration is Tb such that the symbol rate is Rb 1/Tb. Since this is binary signaling, the symbol rate equals the bit rate of the incoming baseband pulse train: B Rt. The signal is then sampled at the center of the noisy shown in the...

A 2-bit binary sequence is transmitted over a noisy communication channel. The noise corrupts the signal in the sense that a transmitted digit transmitted can be flipped with probability 0.1. It has been observed that, across a large number of transmitted signals, the 0s and 1s are transmitted in the ratio 3:4. Given that the sequence 01 is received, calculate the probability that this sequence was transmitted.
