Answer #1

When a computer fails to start, or rather fails to execute POST(Power on Self Test) due to a serious or fatal error in the system, the motherboard identifies the potential problem and sends out an error message in the form of beeps.

Beep codes are generated before the system can initialize the video output. Different motherboards and BIOS have different beep code patterns and each different beep code corresponds to a different type of error.

Generally, it means that there has been a hardware failure due to which the system fails to start.

Some potential solutions are :

  1. Loose connections: Check if the RAM and graphics card are properly fitted into the motherboard, and ensure that all power supply and data cables are properly slotted in. Unplugging and replugging all cables might help.

  1. Hard drive failure: Sometimes there may be a hardware fault with the harddisk itself, so that the BIOS fails to load the OS, resulting in failure to start. Check by booting from a separate disk. Depending on the severity, the entire harddisk may need to be replaced.
