the maximum recombination frequency between the genes is 50%.

if the recombination frequency is less than 50% the distance between the genes in map units is the recombination frequency between the genes in percentage.

so if the genes are located on a chromosome and are far apart the recombination frequency, will be 50%, so it is difficult to accurately measure long map distances by RF for linked genes.

to accurately determine the map distance between the genes which are located fart apart, calculate the recombination frequencies between adjacent genes and them find the sum of the distance between the genes to get the distance between 2 genes.

for example,

the genes on a chromosome are given

-----A-------C-------D--------B-------

to find the distance between A and B, find the distance between A and C, C and D, D and B and then find the sum of these distances.
