1) The various types of social media are as follows :

  1. Social Networks: These include various social media platforms like Facebook, LinkedIn, Twitter, Instagram etc.
    • Pros: These are used to promote brands, advertisements, social interactions, professional interactions, etc.
    • Pros: Easiest way to connect to other people, easier interface for everyday use.
    • Cons: Time consuming and quite addictive in nature.
    • Cons: If backfired can also lead to the demotion of business due to bad reputation & influence.
  2. Consumer Review Networks: These includes various sites like Zomato, Swiggy, Tripadvisors, etc.
    • Pros: These are used to find and receive reviews about particular product or sites and promotes business.
    • Pros: Easy to use for vendors, shops, small business and promotes their growth.
    • Cons: If negetive feedback is received, it may demote the business.
    • Cons: Not all of these networks provide 100% integrity of reviews as wrong feedback can also be feed and lead to the demotion of business.
  3. Discussion Forum: These include Quora, Reddit, Digg, etc.
    • Pros: Promotes information sharing and experience about various things.
    • Pros: Easy to use and is used on a daily basis by writers who want to share their experience or thoughts about a certain issue or want to answer or put up questions.
    • Cons: Sometimes irrelevant questions are asked and may lead to a waste of time and resources.
    • Cons: Wrong or fake information can be uploaded and may lead to discomfort for resources.
  4. Social Shopping Networks: These includes various platforms likes Flipkart, Myntra, Amazon, etc.
    • Pros: Promotes business and brings huge customer base for the company.
    • Pros: Very effective for the users also as it brings various brands all together for users to compare.
    • Cons: Fake such websites may appear and lead to false or theft of user property.
    • Cons: Payments are though secured but may receive defective products.
  5. Blogging Sites: These include Wordpress, Medium, etc.
    • Pros: Best way to share knowledge over various subjects.
    • Pros: Mostly free and easy to use for every user. Blogging is also a great source of earning.
    • Cons: Restricted Informations can be made public.
    • Cons: Earning is less as compared to other platforms.

2) Five behaviors are:

  1. Seeks to gain unauthorized information or access to resources of the Internet: A large part of the Internet is not accessible for general use i.e the most part of Internet is called the dark web, people try to access that part for malicious activities. A lot of illegal activities are monitored around the dark web and also leads to various crimes.
  2. Disrupts the intended use of the Internet: Internet is intended to share knowledge whereas some people use is to get to confidential information about other people and try to harm them. Hackers bring down the servers and steal confidential information of the users.
  3. Wastes resources(people, capacity, computer) through such actions: people use internet for irrelevant usage which leads to redundancy, irrelevant information being spread which also leads to wastage of people time, resources.
  4. Destroys the integrity of computer-based information: Internet is used to share information but as it is accessible to everyone, anyone can access and put up various wrong/fake information which may lead to false results or harm to someone.
  5. Compromises the privacy of the users: As it is a social interface, it is less sensitive towards individual privacy and anyone may use this information to reach the users which may result in various malpractices.

3)a) Cybercrime can be divided into two categories:

  1. Crimes that target networks or devices: Virus, Malware, Dos Attacks, etc.
  2. Crimes using devices to participate in criminal activities: Identity Theft, Cyber hacking, etc.
  • Four types of target-oriented attacks are:
    • DDoS Attacks: Bringing down the servers or networks by increasing the traffic of the sites so that the servers can be hacked. These attacks are very common on large social media platforms handling a huge database of users.

    • Botnets: These are Programs used by hackers to get into the servers after bringing it down by DDoS Attacks and may steal valuable information from the servers. The hackers use these to get access to user data including stealing of user private data or manipulating it.

    • Virus: These are programs intended to replicate inside the host computer if executed and hence can also disrupt the proper functioning of a computer and send confidential information to remote computer. Generally used to disrupt the proper functioning of the computer or server.

    • Social Engineering: It is a way in which the hackers directly get in touch with the target and gain their confidence to get valuable confidential information like bank account details etc. Mostly this is done by people near to the user, who can get in touch with the target and hence gaining confidence is easy and thereafter getting into their confidential data.
