Chapter 27, Problem 019 A total resistance of 3.19 Ω is to be produced by connecting an unknown resistance to a 12.12 Ω resistance. (a) What must be the value of the unknown resistance, and (b) should it be connected in series or in parallel?

As mentioned in question-

Total resistance < One of the resistance i.e that connection should be parallel with unknown resistance-

3.19 = R*(12.12) / (R + 12.12)

3.19R + 38.66 = 12.12R

8.93 R = 38.66

R = 4.33 ohm
