Proteins are synthesized by ribosomes that are either attached to the endoplasmic reticulum or free ribosomes in the cytoplasm of the cell. Those proteins that are to be incorporated into the intracellular organelles like nucleus, mitochondria, chloroplasts and peroxisomes are made in the free ribosomes and released into the cytoplasm once their translation process is complete. The proteins that are destined to be secreted out of the cell like enzymes, hormones etc. are made in the rough endoplasmic reticulum.
